On September 15, Dr. Douglas Young will present the remarkable story of Helen Dortch Longstreet, who was born in Carnesville, Georgia, in 1863 and passed away in Milledgeville at the age of 99. Longstreet made history as the first woman to hold a public office in the state of Georgia, leaving a lasting legacy in Georgia's political and civic history.

Dr. Douglas Young is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of North Georgia, as well as a novelist, essayist, and public speaker. Active in both local and national politics, he has published extensively in newspapers and has delivered lectures throughout the country.
