Robert Gwaltney is a graduate of Florida State University and resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with his partner. He serves as Vice President of Easter Seals North Georgia, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening children and their families during the most critical stages of development. Through his work, he is a passionate advocate for early childhood literacy. Outside of his professional role, he devotes his time to writing.
Raised in Cairo, Georgia, alongside his three younger brothers, Gwaltney is a lifelong Southerner whose upbringing in the subtropical South has left an enduring imprint on his distinctive literary voice. His writing is deeply rooted in a strong sense of place and shaped by the rich traditions of Southern storytelling.
From an early age, Gwaltney found inspiration in classic literature. As a boy, he became captivated by Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, while Truman Capote’s Other Voices, Other Rooms and the works of Tennessee Williams profoundly influenced his imagination. Charles Dickens’ Miss Havisham remains one of his favorite literary characters, inspiring childhood moments of imaginative play that reflected his lifelong fascination with complex, unforgettable storytelling.
Today, Gwaltney’s literary influences span a diverse range of contemporary voices, including Michael Cunningham, Jesmyn Ward, and Ron Rash. Although his reading tastes have evolved over the years, his enduring passion for literature, art, and music continues to shape his work. Through every story he tells, Gwaltney remains committed to discovering and creating beauty in the world.
