Popsicles & Receipts: A Sweet Summer Send-Off in Downtown Eatonton
Downtown Eatonton is closing out summer with a sweet celebration on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 29. Families and kids are invited to stop by for free popsicles (while supplies last), courtesy of the Eatonton Main Street Advisory Board. It’s a perfect way to cool off and enjoy the final days of summer before school begins.
To add to the fun, shoppers can take part in a Downtown Receipt Raffle. Anyone who presents a receipt dated July 29 from any Downtown Eatonton business—regardless of the amount—will receive one raffle entry per receipt for a chance to win a swag bag full of goodies. Winners will be announced and contacted the following week.

Join the Senior “Slow Pitch” softball league, tailored for men over 50 and women over 40! All skill levels are embraced, with pinch runners available for those unable to run.
Bring your glove and bat, but don't worry if you need to borrow equipment. They play at the Putnam County Recreation Center on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting with batting practice at 8:30 am, followed by pickup games at 9 am until around 11 am.

First Friday Classic Car Show
Downtown Milledgeville invites the community to celebrate summer at August First Friday on Friday, August 1st from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM along the 100 block of North Wayne Street.
This month’s event features a special appearance by the Old Capital Car Club, showcasing a lineup of stunning classic cars. Visitors can also enjoy live entertainment, explore downtown shops staying open late, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of this free, family-friendly evening.
Please note: The 100 block of North Wayne Street will close to traffic beginning at 3:00 PM to prepare for the festivities.

Lockerly Arboretum Deep Dive: An Evening with Latria Graham & Sean Hill
Sean Hill is a Milledgeville native and author of two books of poetry – Dangerous Goods and Blood Ties & Brown Liquor. Sean currently lives in Missoula, Montana where he teaches creative writing at the University of Montana.
Latria Graham hails from South Carolina. She is a regular contributor to Garden & Gun, including the article “Masters of the Green: The Black Caddies of Augusta National”. She is a creative writing professor at Augusta University. Latria was just awarded The American Mosaic Journalism Prize.
The pair of friends will tag-team the lecture, discussing their works and how the natural world inspires their writing and daily life.

ORC Racing for Recovery
The community is invited to Racing for Recovery on Friday, September 13 at Central State Campus for a morning dedicated to movement, music, and meaningful connection in honor of Recovery Month.
Hosted by the Oconee Recovery Coalition, the event begins at 8:00 AM with on-site registration, followed by the 5K Race and Walk at 8:30 AM ($25), and the 1 Mile Fun Run at 8:45 AM ($20).
Participants are encouraged to stay after the run for live music, inspiring guest speakers, and delicious food as the community comes together to celebrate recovery and support one another.

Dual Vision: Art Through Different Eyes
The Artisan Village Guild will host a fabulous reception at historic Barrel 118 showcasing photos and artwork which will be displayed for sale on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:30.
After a long weekend at Barrel 118, the photos and artwork are moved to The Artisans Village Art Gallery, 110 W. Marion Street, Eatonton. This show is not a competition, and there is no fee to participate, although you must be a current member of the photo club or the Guild to participate.

Get ready for the Run of Your Life—or Run for Your Life—as Zeta Tau Alpha of Georgia College & State University hosts a thrilling evening run through the hauntingly historic grounds of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville!
This unique event combines music, awards, snacks, zombies, and a dose of adrenaline, all in support of a meaningful cause. Proceeds benefit the ZTA Foundation for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

Car enthusiasts are invited to showcase their vehicles and support a good cause at the Annual Deep Roots Car Show, hosted by the Old Capital Car Club.

Launching from the Dennis Station Boat Ramp in Eatonton, GA, this annual event supports breast cancer awareness and brings the community together for a meaningful day on the water.
Registration begins at 5:00 AM, with weigh-in at 3:00 PM. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or a weekend warrior, it's a tournament that combines friendly competition with a powerful purpose.

Historic Trolley Tour
Hop aboard the town’s most iconic resident, “Milly the Trolley,” for a fully narrated tour of Milledgeville’s historic district!
Featuring grand architecture, beautiful squares, and historic neighborhoods, the sixty-minute tour provides an overview of Milledgeville’s history during its sixty-eight-year period as the capital city of Georgia. During the tour, guests will cruise the historic district via trolley and be escorted on a guided walk through the former statehouse square and St. Stephens Episcopal Church, consecrated in 1843.
Trolley tours are hosted on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10 a.m., departing from the Milledgeville Visitor Information Center, and are offered rain or shine.
Tickets are $15 per person. Pre-purchased tickets are encouraged and may be arranged in person or by calling 478-452-4687.
Please note, the trolley is ADA compliant but moderate mobility is recommended for those who wish to disembark at the statehouse square and St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

Central State Hospital Campus Trolley Tour
Explore the Legacy of Central State Hospital
Step aboard a guided trolley tour through the storied grounds of Central State Hospital—one of Milledgeville’s most iconic and complex landmarks. Established in 1842, this historic institution was once the largest mental health facility in the nation, with over 12,000 patients, 6,000 employees, and 8,000 acres at its peak in the 1960s. Today, the campus spans approximately 2,000 acres and remains operational, serving over 200 clients.
Led by a former hospital employee, this two-hour tour offers a candid and thoughtful look into the hospital’s layered past—from its founding to current redevelopment efforts. Guests will visit key sites such as Cedar Lane Cemetery and the Chapel of All Faiths, when accessible.
Tours are offered on select Saturdays at 11:30 AM and depart from the Milledgeville Visitor Information Center. Tickets are $30 per person, and advance reservations are strongly recommended by calling 478-452-4687 or visiting the center. The trolley is ADA compliant; however, moderate mobility is suggested for those wishing to disembark at tour stops.

Learn to Quilt Weekend
Join The Eclectic Roost in Eatonton, GA for a relaxing and creative weekend quilting workshop from July 25–27!
This beginner-friendly experience is designed to introduce participants to essential quilting techniques while offering a chance to complete a quilted table runner to take home. The workshop is led by Theresa Jackson, a passionate quilter and member of the Lake Oconee Quilt Guild, who found her love for quilting through a family tradition.
Held in a cozy and inspiring setting, the weekend includes hands-on instruction covering rotary cutting, piecing, quilting, binding, and more. The $175 workshop fee includes a two-night stay at The Eclectic Roost, with access to a full kitchen (participants are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages).
